SIMON DELL
Special Constable Simon DELL, MBE

Although born in Middlesex, Simon Dell came to Bideford in North Devon as a young schoolboy with a burning desire, like many boys of that age, to be a policeman. While attending school, he developed a passion for Dartmoor and decided that he wanted to be a policeman in the area where he has now made his home in West Devon, on the edge of the moor.
On leaving school in 1975, Simon's ambition was partially realised when he joined Devon & Cornwall Constabulary as a police cadet.
In 1997 Simon was included in the New Year's Honours List and presented with the MBE by the Queen for his work with the Dartmoor Rescue Group and other local charities as well as services to the community.
Now  retired from his position as a PC, he is working as a Special Constable.
Simon still lives in Tavistock with his wife, Shirley, and their two children, Matthew and Laura, and following the publication of his first book, The Beat on Western Dartmoor, he is in great demand for lectures and presentations on policing history throughout the region.
