Exploring the Lower Walkham Valley
EXPLORING THE LOWER WALKHAM VALLEY
by Paul Rendell.

A landscape of steep banks clothed in woodland, an area rich in both wildlife and industrial remains, the valley of the River Walkham below Bedford Bridge has, until now, received relatively little attention.
Yet, prior to the turn of the century, it was an area where hundreds of people were employed in the quest for copper and tin, and other minerals. There was also a railway, which crossed the valley an two large viaducts, and the adjoining turnpike road was a busy route between Plymouth and Tavistock. Now well-known local historian Paul Rendell expands on these facts - and many more - through a fine collection of old photographs and an informative text, which includes an itinerary for a circular walk through this beautiful valley.
