Prisoners of War in Dartmoor Towns
PRISONERS OF WAR IN
DARTMOOOR TOWNS
by Trevor James.

Although the parole towns accommodated many hundreds of soldiers and sailors, often of mixed nationalities, little trace remains to mark their stay and in many instances the inhabitants today have not an inkling of their colourful past. There can be no doubt the young and adventurous Frenchmen and others created an unprecedented stir when they arrived in the quiet rural areas to which they were sent. The friendships they formed and their acceptance into every kind of social activity left a sad gap on their departure.
